He got up every morning with his focus on pleasing the Father. The following three verses show us his focused, amazing intentional lifestyle.

John 4:34 (ESV)
34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.

John 5:30 (NIV)
30 By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.

John 6:38 (NIV)
38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.

Paul declared that he had molded his life with the same goal that Jesus had. Just as Jesus wanted only to please the Father, Paul wanted only to please Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:9 (NIV)
“So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.”

Paul reminds us in the next verse that we will someday have to give an account before the Judgement seat of Christ for our deeds, and the implication is that our deeds, whether good or bad, will be judged based upon whether or not Christ is pleased with them.

2 Corinthians 5:10 (NIV)
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”

In Ephesians 5:10, Paul says that we should try to “discern what is pleasing to the Lord.” So, I encourage you today to ask God to show you how you can live in such a way that pleases him.

What if you are “stuck” in your home with no set agenda. What if you do nothing today? Can that be pleasing to God? Maybe, but not likely. Can you imagine a believer spending the whole day in his home decrying how bored his is? How can a believer be bored when at his finger tips is the technology to study God’s Word, in ways that the early church would have died for?

As you start each day, what is your main objective for that day? Some of you will write a to-do list, or at least have in mind what you would like to accomplish for the day. May I suggest that at the top of that list should be your goal, your aim, to live this day in such a way that it pleases God. If you don’t get anything else done today, live to please Him.

If you do a million things today and yet fail to please Christ, you have wasted your day.

John 8:29 (NIV) 29 The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.” Study the life of Jesus and you will find that he lived his life with only one goal.
