Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.&nbsp;<span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">24<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.&nbsp;<span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">27<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.&nbsp;<span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">28<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Just before Jesus goes to the cross, He establishes a whole new paradigm for prayer. This is to take place \u201cin that day.\u201d Jesus is speaking of the day after He has risen and gone back to the Father, in which He sends the Holy Spirit. To the Hebrew mind, the capacity to have a personal relationship with God was not possible. He spoke to the people through the prophets or the priest.<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Hebrews 1:1\u20133 (ESV)<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\"><span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">1<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;\u201cLong ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,&nbsp;<span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">2<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,\u2026&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Now, look back at what Jesus tells them, \u201cwhatever you ask of the Father;\u201d \u201cfor the Father himself loves you.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Jesus introduces to His disciples the possibility of a personal loving relationship with God the Father.<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">And He says all you have to do is come in My name.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Believers have struggled as just exactly who are we to pray to. In this passage, Jesus says, ASK THE FATHER. But, in John 14:13-14, He says, ASK ME.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">John 14:13\u201314 (ESV)<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\"><span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">13<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;\u201cWhatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.&nbsp;<span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">14<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">And, in Romans 10:13, we are to call upon the name of the Lord. In the context, it is Christ upon whom we call.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Romans 10:13 (ESV) \u201cFor everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">In Acts, Stephen clearly prays to Jesus upon his death:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Acts 7:59\u201360 (ESV)<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\"><span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">59<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, \u201cLord Jesus, receive my spirit.\u201d&nbsp;<span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">60<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, \u201cLord, do not hold this sin against them.\u201d And when he had said this, he fell asleep.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">In 1 Corinthians 1:9 we read:<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">\u201cGod is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">The word &#8220;fellowship&#8221; is the Greek word koinonia, which is also translated as the word &#8220;communion.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">So, this verse says that we are to have an intimate fellowship with Jesus.&nbsp;That is fine.&nbsp;But, how can we have fellowship with someone with whom we never talk?&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Look what Paul says in 2 Timothy 4:16\u201317 (ESV)<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\"><span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">16<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;\u201cAt my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. ..<span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">17<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\"><span class=\"yiv9851351018\">And what about the Holy Spirit? I<\/span>s it alright to pray to the Holy Spirit? Well, Paul speaks of having fellowship with the Spirit.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">2 Corinthians 13:14 (ESV)<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">\u201cThe grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Jesus tells the disciples,<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">John 14:16\u201317 (ESV)<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\"><span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">16<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;\u201cAnd I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,&nbsp;<span class=\"yiv9851351018\"><sup class=\"yiv9851351018\">17<\/sup><\/span>&nbsp;even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\"><span class=\"yiv9851351018\">In some translations, the word for \u201chelper\u201d is translated as \u201ccomforter.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span>The idea of the Greek word is of someone who walks alongside of us, like a lawyer in the court. Does this not sound like someone that you have a relationship with?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>So, what\u2019s the answer?<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Well, let me just share some of my own convictions.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">It seems to me that we need to distinguish between petition and fellowship. We certainly can sense a connection and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. So in that light, it seems that we can pray to the Holy Spirit, who is also God.&nbsp;Nevertheless, we never see an instance in the Bible where anyone prays to the Holy Spirit.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Why is that?&nbsp;The answer is that the Holy Spirit does not bear witness of Himself.&nbsp;He bears witness of the Son, as John 15:26 (ESV) says, \u201cBut when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">But still, it seems we can pray to the Spirit because we are also called into fellowship with the Spirit.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div id=\"yiv9851351018\">\n<div class=\"yiv9851351018\">Tomorrow, we will draw some conclusion about the appropriateness of our prayer to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"H_7jIs D_F ab_C Q_69H5 E_36RhU\" data-test-id=\"toolbar-hover-area\">\n<div class=\"D_F W_6D6F r_BN gl_C\" data-test-id=\"card-toolbar\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We now ask the question, to whom do we pray?&nbsp; Do we address the Father or the Son or the Holy Spirit? &nbsp; John 16:23\u201324, 26-27&nbsp;(ESV) 23&nbsp;In that day you will ask nothing of me.
