Our New Life In Christ – The Peace Life
This week, our devotional thoughts will be a celebration of our new life in Christ. To do this, we are looking at eight sayings of Jesus after His resurrection. Each of these sayings explains one blessed aspect of our new life with Christ.
3. The Peace Life
John 20:19–20 (ESV)
19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
Obviously, the disciples were in complete disorder. Their whole view of life and purpose had been turned upside down. Then, Jesus came. And what did He do? He brought order back into their disorder. And that is the very definition of peace: A SENSE OF ORDER WHEN WE ORDER OUR LIFE ACCORDING TO THE ORDERS OF THE GOD OF ORDER.
Once again, when the shock of the new reality that Jesus is alive settled, I’m sure they must have remembered Jesus’ words…
John 14:27 (ESV)
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
It has often been said that there are THREE TYPES OF PEACE.
Jesus speaks of THE PEACE THE WORLD GIVES. This is when we use various methods to escape from the disorder in our lives.
There is PEACE WITH GOD. That’s what happened when we gave our life to Jesus. Before that, the Scriptures says we were enemies of God. But, now we have been made right with God (Rom 5:10).
Then, there is the PEACE OF GOD. This is the peace Jesus is referring to when He said “Peace be with you,” or “my peace I give you.”
Notice in John 14, who this peace belongs to. This is the life that all of us are promised: that when we allow Jesus to enter into our world, His peace is available to us.
Jesus has done His part: He gives us His peace. Now, we must do our part: we must choose to receive His peace and live in it.
Let us choose this day to order our life according to the orders of the God of order.
