The first discipline is that we must have…
1. A Private Time Daily in the Word and Prayer (quiet time)
Having energized our lives privately in the Word and prayer, we are ready to be actively involved with other believers.
It is very important for us to have…
2. One Large Group Worship Experience Each Week
Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV) says:
24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
I like to call this my “salad” verse because three times, it says, lettuce. Okay, it says, “let us”.
“Let us” find ways to spur each other on toward love and good deeds. This only happens when we are gathered together.
‘“Let us” not quit meeting together. Conversely, let us continue to meet with each other. It is ironic how hard it can be to quit a bad habit and how easy it can be to lose a good habit.
“Let us” encourage one another. We can only encourage one another if we are meeting faithfully together.
I meet people all the time who tell me they are Christians, but they are no longer involved with a church. My immediate response is to inform them that they are not in tune with Scriptures. That God does not have a plan “B” for how to live as a Christian in this world. As imperfect as most churches are, it’s still God’s way. As I often say, “If you find a ‘perfect’ church, don’t join it. You’ll ruin it!”
Gathering together with other believers is one of the most important disciplines we must develop if we are to be a healthy Christian.
What do we accomplish in a large group worship?
* It reminds us that we are not in the battle alone.
* It provides a forum for providing general direction to the whole body
* It calls us into deeper relationships with each other.
* It is a stimulus for growth as we worship and receive instruction.
